Rachel Bagby
www.divinedaughters.com
Rachel Bagby, J.D, is a vocal artist, poet,
composer, ecological activist, and mountain's daughter. A
graduate of Stanford Law School and a long-time political
activist, her work articulates the challenges and joys of
cultivating "homefulness:" restorative relationships between
nature and culture.
Rachel is renowned for her extraordinary use of voice and
singing as an avenue of growth, spiritual connection and
redefinition of social ideas and boundaries. Her spirited
vocal talents earned her a place in Bobby McFerrin's improvisational
ensemble, Voicestra, and she has also released several commissioned
choral works and recordings of her compositions.
She was simultaneously raised in the lap of violent poverty
and extraordinary privilege and brings the breadth of her
heritage to her work. In her youth she helped her mother
found a major Philadelphia community organization, planting
neighborhood gardens and rehabilitating housing for elders,
students and single mothers. Since then, Rachel has helped
communities of daughters give voice to their life-affirming
visions. For the next 25 years, she envisions continuing
to amplify daughterly voices via her inititive DaughterWise:
helping daughters embrace, embody and express their wisdom;
helping daughters receive the care they need to sustain their
personal and social change work.
Rachel is the author of Divine Daughters: Liberating
the Power and Passion of Women's Voices, and has also written
for many leading national journals and been a contributor
to numbers of anthologies. She is widely known as a proponent
of developing collective wisdom, speaking at major venues
in such fields as gender equality, mindfulness practice,
and sustainable development.
